How Fare Shop works

We are a small group of three trustees and a small but growing number of volunteers who believe that no one should go hungry.

As a registered charity, we must abide by the rules set by the Charity Commission and can only sell to customers who are in receipt of one or more state benefits, this includes state pensions.

Fare Shop offers basic food and household items at affordable prices. All items on offer are donated by or purchased from supermarkets and other suppliers and vary from day to day. Food items are ‘ambient’ foods (currently no chilled or frozen foods), fruit and vegetables. The prices charged only cover the running costs of the Fare Shop, and are not for profit.

Items can be bought singly or – in the near future – as ‘recipe packs’ (a bundle of all ingredients needed to make one meal). Depending on how much or how little food is available on the day, there may be restrictions on how much can be purchased on that day.

Customers need to bring their own shopping bag.
